Tryouts

  • Run tryouts for Purdue Esports separate from the clubs. This is mostly to distinguish that Purdue Esports will be a bit more involved
  • For each game, one (maybe a couple more depending on club) person from the club is designated as the “Head” of that game and will be in charge of running the tryouts for that game
    • Ideally this person is NOT also on the team playing or at least is not starting
    • They also would have to be respected enough within the club and high rank enough etc
    • Most clubs generally have this kind of a setup already anyways, so should transition fine. Whoever is normally in charge of making teams likely could be also in charge of making Varsity teams
    • This person would after tryotus end up as the “team manager”. not that this means they have anything else to do really, but maybe they are a point of contact for issues or just keep an eye on the team and make sure things run smooth. they probably will also be busy with their own club stuff anyways, just gives a “title” to them
      • Overwatch: Ruki (if he chooses to play he knows coaches to help run tryouts along with myself)
      • Rocket League: Enchantedd? Bob? idk, need Jackson help here
      • Valorant: They have a bunch of people, someone fits this
      • Smash: Same as Val
  • Tryouts will require an “Application” aka google form where people provide their game accounts for scouting. We can ask clubs for a “minimum” requirement based on each club since they know the general population of the club and who will compete and ranks etc
  • Tryouts run in the lab possibly?
  • Tryouts need to be finished probably a week or two before BEC season start so teams have a chance to meet and practice
  • Every team needs to have multiple subs
    • BEC rules regarding forfeits and reschedules are getting really tight this year
    • We could possibly have subs be the basis of a “JV” team for each game, but we would have to make sure that if a sub is needed for Varsity that the JV team either reschedules or forfeits their games, which is probably not ideal. I prefer having a few guaranteed subs and then other subs be on JV rather than just ALL the subs be JV as well. Or we could just say that non starters for Varsity are allowed to be on a club team if they wish, so long as they know they MUST sub if called on and have to attend the occasional practice
  • JV Teams?
  • Scholarships stuff idk i assume theyd just go to every player on the team including subs?
  • we should try and time the tryouts so that varsity tryouts happen and then the club team tryouts or whatever the club does happens, that way we can let people who dont make varsity still have a chance to play with the club teams and not miss out on it cuz they were same time., will make scheduling hard but worth it imo

Once teams are made we could either have them operate out of a central server or within their own servers. “Operating” referring to essentially a team chat, scheduling scrims/matches, practices, etc.

Overall Team stuff

  • We can have a designated Team Captain as the person who schedules scrims and matches and is just generally the “leader” of the team
    • Probably someone who is either chosen by their teammates or if multiple people then we as the people running it decide via interviewing each person. The Team Captain has to represent Purdue well in public spaces
  • We have Varsity Teams (one per game) and the Club Teams (unlimited)
    • The Club Teams are not necessarily focused on winning everything or taking everything serious. They can be, and probably should be a little serious but not end of the world
    • Varsity team is THE Purdue team, they should always be trying hard and trying to win etc.
    • These are obvious things but still writing em down cuz y not
  • Club Teams are created and run by the clubs, Varsity teams are created/run separately
  • I think for both club teams and varsity teams we should have a “player agreement” thingy for everyone to do/sign
    • Basically acknowledging that they represent purdue and should not represent purdue in a bad light
    • Any kind of punishment from a league is grounds for discipline within clubs (at club leadership discretion)
    • PUGG leadership may also get involved if needed (for club teams)
    • At clubs discretion things may be elevated to ODOS or CoRec (Purdue Esports)
    • we basically cant have people misrepresenting purdue and if we find out people are misrepresenting purdue they should be subject to discipline/warnings as needed
    • shouldnt be something to scare people, more just proof clubs can have that people agreed to not misrepresent purdue or insult people in matches whatever and if they do that stuff they can be properly disciplined for it
    • this is just something that we havent really had for purdue esports stuff in past, probably good to have some more accountability here
    • we can get this checked by the clubs too
  • Varsity teams should ideally practice/scrim two times a week, and then will probably have one-two matches a week depending on the semester for bec. more required stuff added at the teams/coaches (if there are any) discretion?
  • obviously varsity teams will have travel stuff paid for in case of lan events

Social stuff

  • Probably a good idea to have a Purdue Esports social media stuffs
  • Broadcast as many varsity games as we can, we have a studio so why not
  • We can also promote any club events and any club team victories/highlights (or repost them if club social medias handle it)

admin things

  • whos gonna be responding to bec polls for things or communicating with bec leadership while we dont have a director?
  • what league do we do?
    • varsity teams will be in bec, but bec will only be two games a semester so we need something else still
    • i vote either ECAC or NECC since they both cover all the club teams as well with one payment for the school, so we could get ALL purdue teams in with one payment
  • practices in the lab? vod rvw in lab? matches in lab? etc etc
  • jerseys for every member of varsity team, sub or starter
    • maybe we could also do jerseys for the people who helped out with tryouts? since they are kinda the “team managers”. i also want an oficial jersey lol
  • gpa requirement for varsity? including subs?
