- chris envisions it as an event run by PUGG and Purdue Esports along with Purdue Conferences as the event planning side
- purdue esports sends the purdue teams and maybe helps put on the event a bit
- pugg runs the event and puts it on
- show the competitive side and the casual side of gaming, show what they both have to offer for players and companies
- gaming focused speakers
- professor javier? philosophy department has some people who would likely be interested
- the english gaming focused professor
- maybe a game dev type person to talk about how games are made and behind the scenes
- scott phillips
- was a dev for assassins creed and is a purdue alumni
- game director for assassins creed franchises, both syndicate and odyssey
- spoken at GDC before
- maybe esports focused speakers as well?
- not an issue getting esports crowd to come out, theyll come for general gaming stuff easily too
- focus more on getting general gaming community to want to come out for this
- a speaker on like the esports being similar to sports stuff
- William Lee - Coach for Team Liquid DOTA 2 team, purdue alum
- Luke - founder of Purdue Rocket League, obviously alum, founded College Carball Association (they run collegiate rocket league)
- Dylan Gentilcore - Matthew knows him personally from Carmel
- Ahman Green
- Esports director at Nebraska
- Hall of Fame Runningback from University of Nebraska and played in NFL for packers
- Would be cool to have him talk about sports and esports cross between them
- companies talking to people potentially as well
- maybe a career fair focused on gaming industry
- arcade type thing for casual people to just walk in and play, non competitive space. more crowd friendly
- likely this would be the same space where speakers are
- Matthew Hannah - professor at Purdue of digital humanities
- the dead media guy
- has original games. like original atari, original nes etc
- potentially a career development type thing on skills for workplace
- maybe how to land jobs in gaming industry
- maybe what skills do gamers have that are beneficial kind of thing, how to market being a gamer to companies
- esports focused show matches for both bringing more people and having something to watch
- bring in ohio state as another runner and sponsor of the whole event
Meeting with OSU (second one) §
- Goals
- Provide a fun way for anyone to interact with gaming
- Get both casual and competitive gamers involved, both in terms of events and things to see/hear/do
- Open to public? Maybe try and get more people who aren’t necessarily the most avid gamers to want to come out and check it out
- What to get
- PUGG wants to mainly promote its presence on campus, help bring it back to life as the community of gamers on Purdue, whether competitive, casual, or anything in between
- From a competitive standpoint, we want to probably have a well run tournament/show match structure that shows Purdue and other midwest schools that there is a legitimate want for collegiate esports.
- What it should do
- I mean kind of just the above but again
- Speakers would be cool, speaking on either competitive or casual aspects of gaming. Game making, teamwork, etc.
- Maybe get companies involved to talk more about gaming careers almost as a pseudo career fair, or lite version of a career fair, thats more focused on gaming and the computer/tech industry as a whole
- A tournament/show match setup for various midwestern esports programs to compete. maybe also streamed? that might get too out of scope though of being an event around gaming and more into the territory of just a tournament event.
The main thing I think is that we want this to be an event that promotes gaming positively. Both to the public, other gamers (competitive or casual), universities, companies, etc. Gaming has a tendency to get a bad rap sometimes, big events like this can try and influence that. We all know there’s so much more than just killing the enemies on the screen, might as well share that with everyone else.
Stakeholders §
- Student gamers
- Casual Players (a little more focus here)
- Community driven, non community driven
- Competitive Players (dont want to discount them)
- Other just students. Non-gamer? Lite gamer? untapped interest?
- Alumni?
- Possibly universities themselves/administration?
More Secondary §
- Industry/businesses?
- networking event, career fair type thing
- probably less of a stakeholder
Programming Ideas §
- very likely two day event
- panels/talks/speakers - likely will attract a chunk of gamers, alumni, and get administration interest
- community things with gaming around it, so more of community in gaming rather than straight up gaming
- focus on leadership development and team building and community building in terms of content
- needs to be a mix of everything. leadership, community building, team building, gaming, game dev, philosophy of gaming, why do we play games, etc etc
- ideas?
- ahman green
- debate with ai maybe
- gaming career panel?
- game dev from assassins creed guy?
- interactive gaming area, free play - attract random people, casual gamers, alumni, public
- competitive side with a tournament - attract competitive gamers and anyone interested in watching games (entertainment side?)
